Programs

This is an image of someone who is visually impaired working.Vocational Evaluation Program: A unique service for assisting individuals who are visually impaired to choose an appropriate career direction.  The results of a comprehensive vocational evaluation from the assessment tools will be utilized to provide the consumers with career and occupational information, vocational guidance and counseling.

Customer Service Training Program (CSTP): For those who are interested in direct job training. It teaches customer service and specific occupations such as Debt Collection, Telephone Attendant, Telemarketing, and Order Entry. The CSTP instructor researches service industry trends and purchases or develops curriculums in key employment areas.

Job Readiness and Placement: The full-service program provides resume and cover letter writing, interviewing techniques and job leads. The placement staff also works closely with employers, educating them about the awareness of visual impairments and performing task analysis in order to assist in the coordination of job modification efforts.

Job Retention Program: Works with individuals to develop a strategy in achieving their employment goals.  Vision loss does not decrease an individual's productivity; some job duties may just need to be performed differently.  Job Retention services include maximizing vision through optical devices, maximizing productivity through job assessment and accommodations, providing specialized equipment and training when needed, and more.

Office Skills Training Program (OSTP): Helps those who want to increase their employability by gaining essential computer knowledge. Students learn the developed curriculums in clerical and administrative office practices, and other business soft skills for use in an office setting.

Recipient Identification Number (RIN) Data Entry/Retrieval Program: A contracted service provided by The Chicago Lighthouse for the state of Illinois. RIN employees use an internet-based system to conduct retrieval and assignment of recipient identification numbers to clients receiving services from Department of Human Social Services programs.

Work Adjustment Training Program: Provides training (industrial and janitorial) opportunities for people who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled.  Participants have the opportunity to acquire marketable skills and to develop appropriate workplace attitudes and behaviors in preparation for competitive or supported employment.
