Adaptive Technology Center
The Chicago Lighthouse Adaptive Technology Center offers cutting edge adaptive devices, computer hardware and software to help individuals meet the challenges of a visual impairment.
Our nationally renowned low vision specialists assist individuals in selecting the equipment that works best for them. Our services include:
- Analysis of computer compatibility of the technology selected
- Short-term training on adaptive technology equipment at the Center or at the work site
- Set-up of the equipment in the home or office
- Follow-up for further refinements and additional specialized job-related training
- Consultation with employer’s computer technicians to ensure software/hardware compatibility
The Chicago Lighthouse Tools for Living Retail Store carries a full-line of adaptive technology and independent living aids. The store is custom-designed to ensure ease of mobility and browsing for customers who are blind or visually impaired who wish to test adaptive technology and devices. The 1,200 square foot facility offerss broad array of products including:
Electronics such as desktop/portable CCTVs, image/text-to-speech electronics, GPS, and other adaptive technologies.
Independent Living Aids such as talking clocks and watches, canes, kitchen appliances, computer programs, games, sunglasses, and much more.
